Kroon to Share Metadata Insights for Aug. 5 OTT.X Webinar
Richard Kroon, technical director of the Entertainment ID Registry (EIDR), will be among those weighing in on metadata’s importance to the streaming industry during the Aug. 5 OTT.X webinar "Winning the Content Supply Chain with Better Metadata.”
With streaming continuously evolving and premium live events increasingly moving to digital platforms, a top competitive advantage goes to those who are efficient with their content operations. And high-quality metadata is proving to be the foundation that connects every stage of the content supply chain, from onboarding and distribution to discovery, rights management, and monetization.
"To paraphrase James Carville, it's the metadata, stupid. You cannot scale without automation, yet you cannot automate chaos — you just deliver bad results faster — so any effective media supply chain must start with clean, complete, and reliable metadata,” Kroon said. “This is even more important with AI — if you feed an AI uncertainty, it will deliver plausible garbage with absolute confidence, and you'll be none the wiser.”
Hollie Choi, managing director of EIDR, added: “The big topic right now is everyone looking to automate because windows are getting shorter and things are getting harder to automate. You can't scale without automation. And the biggest problem in the industry with automation right now is bad metadata.”
Kroon and others will dive into how modern workflows, interoperable metadata, and standardized identifiers all work together to help stakeholders improve content discoverability, support the growing demands of CTV, streaming, and live event distribution, and reduce operational friction. The role of AI and automation in building a future-ready media ecosystem will also be on the docket.
Attendees should come away with answers to:
• Why metadata is foundational to today's streaming ecosystem
• Best practices for improving content discoverability and operational efficiency
• How AI and automation are transforming content workflows
• Strategies for building a scalable, future-ready content supply chain
On the panel, Kroon will be joined by Dustin Sullivan, CEO of SportsDataIO; Kirby Grimes, founder and CEO of 43Twenty; and Rhodes Mason, VP of business development for Fabric.
“As new technologies, evolving consumer behaviors, changing business models, and increasing operational complexity continue to reshape the media landscape, staying informed has never been more important,” OTT.X said. “From AI and metadata to content distribution and platform strategy, the pace of change is creating new opportunities while presenting new challenges for organizations across the streaming ecosystem.”
