HBO, Fox, Warner Among Studio Speakers at HITS Fall

The Oct. 4 Hollywood Innovation & Technology Summit (HITS) Fall event in Los Angeles will see a collection of studio heads discussing the latest innovations at their companies, with HBO, Disney, Fox and Warner Bros. all represented. Here’s a look at what’s on tap:

• In the presentation “Unleashing IP Portfolio: Key to Global Success,” Todd Barasch, VP of product and portfolio management for global distribution operations and strategy for The Walt Disney Company, will share how a proactive, integrated approach to monetize a library of product for international television and emerging platforms can yield significant dividends, with insights into building a centralized source of product information, rights/availability, market intelligence, and timely dissemination of information.

• Yonah Levenson, manager of taxonomy for HBO, will offer a look at how the IETF BCP 47 languages standard provides a way for the company to “herd the cats” of existing system interoperability, while also scoping for a future state that allows HBO to better support global efforts, in the presentation “Demystifying Language Metadata.”

• The panel “Intellectual Property Monetization: People, Processes and Technology” features a collection of studio experts discussing how they leverage today’s complex digital ecosystem to optimize revenues from channels, territories and platforms, and how disparate systems and databases are being integrated and enhanced to better manage rights, track usage of content and its distribution, and incorporate metadata along the way. Eric Iverson, CIO of Creative Artists Agency (CAA), will moderate the panel with Hollie Choi, executive director of IT for 20th Century Fox, Clay Epstein, president of Film Mode Entertainment, and Stelio Tellis, VP of intellectual property and enterprise data for Warner Bros.

HITS Fall will feature a full morning of keynotes, panels and use-case presentations around Entertainment Production in the Cloud (EPIC), and, additionally, the day-long meeting at the Skirball Center in Los Angeles, will focus on other key, innovative and transformative technologies including blockchain, AI, distributed workflows, and cybersecurity. Once again, HITS will be co-located with the SoCal Women’s Leadership Group annual meeting.

In total more than 1,000 senior studio executives and their technology partners attended last year’s HITS Fall, making it the largest industry conference of the season in Los Angeles. In addition, the Information Security Systems Association (ISSA) LA chapter will be capping off the day with its monthly member dinner meeting. Furthermore, HITS Fall will also host membership meetings and technology briefings for both the Trusted Partner Network (TPN) and Entertainment ID Registry (EIDR).

HITS Fall is sponsored by Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Ooyala, TiVo, Cognizant, LiveTiles, Wasabi, Aspera, EIDR, MicroStrategy, human-I-T, Zaszou IT Consulting and OnPrem Solution Partners and is produced by the Media & Entertainment Services Alliance (MESA), in association with the Content Delivery & Security Association (CDSA), the Hollywood IT Society (HITS), the Smart Content Council and Women in Technology Hollywood (WiTH).
