EIDR’s Got You Covered: 2020 Oscar Nominations

Nominations for the 92nd Academy Awards are out and this year 57 different movies have been recognized with 124 individual nominations in 24 separate categories, led by Joker with 11 nominations in total including Best Picture, Best Actor (Joaquin Phoenix), and Best Director (Todd Phillips). The big winner at this year’s Golden Globe awards, 1917, came a close second with 10 nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director (Sam Mendes). Parasite, the only remaining one-word-title Best Picture nominee this year, is also nominated for Best Foreign Language Film. This is only the 10th time that a non-English language film has received a Best Picture nomination (none of them have gone on to win).

The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday February 9, 2020 and will air live on television around the world from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California. This is the earliest the awards ceremony has ever been held, continuing a trend that began in 2004 when the ceremony moved from late March/early April to late February – and now early February – in an attempt to boost television ratings by limiting the ability for other awards programs to predict Oscar winners by holding their ceremonies before the Oscars.

EIDR would like to congratulate all the nominees. Below is a list of the nominated films, including feature films, documentaries, and shorts in both live action and animated formats along with the EIDR IDs for each work. EIDR IDs for every film ever nominated for an Academy Award can also be found in the EIDR Registry at ui.eidr.org.
