About EIDR
The Entertainment Identifier Registry (EIDR) is a global, nonprofit organization that provides a trusted foundation for identifying and referencing audiovisual content across the media and entertainment ecosystem.
EIDR operates the EIDR Registry, a public registry that assigns permanent, unique identifiers to movies, television programs, series, episodes, clips, and other forms of audiovisual content. These identifiers create a shared reference point that reduces ambiguity, improves interoperability, and keeps partners aligned across systems, workflows, and markets.
EIDR is incorporated in the United States as a 501(c)(6) nonprofit trade association. Our mission is industry-driven and collaborative. We exist to solve shared infrastructure challenges at scale, not to license data or compete with commercial metadata providers.
Open, Shareable, and Unlicensed
EIDR encourages the broad use and sharing of EIDR IDs and core registry metadata. All EIDR identifiers and registry data are unlicensed and openly available for reference and integration. This openness allows organizations to connect EIDR IDs with their own systems, workflows, and identifiers, reducing duplication and enabling more efficient data exchange across the content lifecycle.

Neutral and Industry-Led
EIDR is vendor-neutral and independent. No single company owns or controls the registry. The organization is governed by a Board of Directors made up of leading media, technology, and data companies, representing some of the most influential organizations in the global entertainment industry. The Board provides strategic oversight and ensures that EIDR continues to serve the collective interests of the industry.
Global in Scope
EIDR is headquartered on the West Coast of the United States and operates with a distributed team, including staff based in the United Kingdom. Our participant community spans regions, business models, and market segments, reflecting the global nature of today’s content supply chains.

Built for Interoperability and Longevity
EIDR is designed to work alongside other registries, standards, and industry systems. By providing a stable, persistent identifier layer, EIDR helps organizations future-proof their data, streamline integrations, and support long-term consistency as technologies, platforms, and markets evolve.
With years of industry adoption and millions of registered records, EIDR is a trusted, durable piece of shared infrastructure, quietly supporting how content is identified, tracked, and understood worldwide.
