New EIDR Partner Raw Science Film Festival and the DNA of Media Identity
New York-based Raw Science Film Festival (RSFF) is a new EIDR member partner supporting the cataloging of all science media with universal identifiers, the DNA of audiovisual unique identification.
The festival is an annual event that brings together people across science, technology, and entertainment to showcase best in class science film and media. The mission of RSFF is to humanize science and bring fact-based experts to the forefront of popular culture by celebrating the best science storytelling in the world.
The EIDR Entertainment Identifier Registry provides the first comprehensive universal identifier system for all types of movie and television assets – ranging from top level titles that represent the original work or intellectual property to various embodiments of the work down to physical SKUs and digital distributions.
The combined effort of RSFF and EIDR not only tags important works of scientific, historical, and cultural significance, it helps independent filmmakers in their journey through the full lifecycle of distribution. EIDR unique identifiers are used in citations, databases such as IMDB, and throughout distribution by movie, television, and streaming studios.
According to festival founder Keri Kukral, “The metadata of science media tells a tale of its own! A critically important application of the EIDR Registry, the Dewey Decimal System (DDC) of electronic media, is establishing the provenance of digital assets. In the age of generative artificial intelligence, filmmakers have the ability to discern their original works.”
Raw Science Film Festival is a fiscally sponsored member of New York Live Arts, Inc., a non-profit tax-exempt organization. It won Best of Fest in 2019 by Fest Forums, a consortium of key industry leaders, event producers, and artists including the cofounder of Woodstock (1969), President of Live Nation, and President/Founder of Sundance Productions. The event was initially made possible through the support of the National Academy of Sciences and The Science and Entertainment Exchange.
The Entertainment Identifier Registry Association (EIDR) is a nonprofit industry association which supplies the entertainment supply chain with universal identifiers for a broad array of audio visual objects.
